Springfield College Women’s Gymnastics Shines at Rhode Island Tri-Meet

The Springfield College women’s gymnastics team recently competed in a tri-meet at Rhode Island College. The event featured three teams: the host Anchorwomen, the Pride, and Cortland State. Despite finishing third, Springfield College delivered a strong performance with a total score of 184.975.

Rhode Island College won the meet with a score of 191.875, followed by Cortland State with 189.675.

Outstanding Individual Performances

Sage Kaplan, a junior from Auburn, Mass., led the Pride with an impressive third-place finish in the All-Around competition. Kaplan achieved a total score of 37.425, with notable marks of 9.650 on the floor, 9.400 on both the vault and the uneven bars, and 8.975 on the beam. Her score of 9.400 on the bars was the highest for the Pride and ranked eighth among 22 competitors.

Floor Exercise Dominance

Springfield College excelled in the floor exercise, achieving a combined score of 48.375, which was the highest among the competing teams. The team’s success on the floor was a result of strong performances by several gymnasts:

  • Elsie Gardiner (Tucson, Ariz.) led the Pride with a score of 9.725.
  • Stacy Taylor (Biddeford, Maine) followed closely with a score of 9.700.
  • Delaney LaViolette (Holden, Mass.) posted a score of 9.675.
  • Sage Kaplan contributed a score of 9.650.
  • Julia Reer (Cedar Grove, N.J.) recorded a score of 9.625.

Strong Performances on Bars and Beam

The Pride began the day on the uneven bars, with Kaplan posting a score of 9.400 and Reagan Charlton (Bentonville, Ark.) recording a 9.100. Moving to the beam, Scarlette Ayakawa (Coppell, Texas) led Springfield with a score of 9.375, followed by Brenna Johnson (Plainfield, Conn.) with a score of 9.025.

Vault Success

Springfield College concluded the meet with a strong performance on the vault, achieving a combined score of 47.350. Stacy Taylor paced the team with a fourth-place finish and a score of 9.625, while Reagan Charlton took ninth place with a score of 9.575.

Looking Ahead

The Pride will host their final meet of the season on Sunday, February 23, at 1:00 pm. They will compete against Rhode Island College and Southern Connecticut State. This upcoming meet provides an opportunity for the team to build on their recent successes and continue to improve their performances.
