The Oklahoma Sooners women’s gymnastics team is set to make a significant impact this Saturday at the Sprout’s Farmer’s Market Collegiate Quad. With the No. 1 ranking in the nation, the Sooners are ready to face off against top-tier competition.

They will compete against No. 2 LSU, No. 4 Utah, and No. 6 California. This highly anticipated event, hosted by ESPN Events, will be broadcast live on ABC at 3 p.m. CT from the Paycom Center in downtown Oklahoma City. The meet promises to be a thrilling showcase of collegiate gymnastics excellence.

Oklahoma’s Dominant Season Opener

The Sooners kicked off their season with a commanding performance at the American Gold Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Classic in Nashville on January 4. They secured their first victory of the season with an impressive score of 197.550, defeating Auburn (195.950), BYU (194.625), and Nebraska (194.475). This victory propelled Oklahoma to a 3-0 record for the season.

All-Around Excellence

Five Sooners competed in the all-around category, showcasing their versatility and skill. Faith Torrez emerged as the all-around champion with a remarkable score of 39.625.

She was closely followed by freshman Lily Pederson with a 39.550. Other notable performances included Audrey Davis (39.425), Addison Fatta (39.325), and Jordan Bowers (39.275). The Sooners also claimed event titles on all four apparatuses:

Keira Wells Earns SEC Honors

Sophomore Keira Wells received the program’s first SEC honor of the season, being named the SEC Specialist of the Week. Her outstanding performance on the vault, scoring a career-high 9.95 on her Yurchenko 1.5, not only secured the event title but also tied for the highest score in the nation on the apparatus.

This exceptional routine helped the Sooners achieve a team score of 49.450 on vault, the highest in the country.

Freshman Impact

The Sooners’ freshman class made a significant impact in their collegiate debuts, contributing nine of the team’s 24 competitive routines. Addison Fatta and Lily Pederson competed in the all-around, while Elle Mueller showcased her skills on the uneven bars.

Mueller also performed an exhibition floor routine, and Kelsey Slade delivered an exhibition routine on bars, highlighting the depth and potential of the freshman class.

Upcoming Matchup: Sprout’s Collegiate Quad

This Saturday, the Sooners will face their toughest competition yet at the Sprout’s Farmer’s Market Collegiate Quad. The event will feature four of the top-ranked teams in the nation:

  • No. 2 LSU: The Tigers come into the meet with a 197.300 score from their dual-meet victory over Iowa State. Aleah Finnegan, with a 39.725 in the all-around, earned SEC Gymnast of the Week honors, while Kailin Chio was named SEC Freshman of the Week with a 39.575 all-around score. LSU leads the nation on floor with a 49.500 mark.
  • No. 4 Utah: Utah posted a 196.775 in their opening meet against Utah State. The Red Rocks are ranked No. 1 on beam with a 49.475 score, led by Makenna Smith’s 39.500 in the all-around.
  • No. 6 California: California enters the meet with a 196.275 from their season opener, securing wins over UCLA and Oregon State. Mya Lauzon led the Golden Bears with a 39.525 in the all-around.
