Gymhawks Face Bowling Green and Central Michigan in Tri-Meet Sunday

The Southeast Missouri Gymnastics team, known as the Gymhawks, is gearing up for their fifth consecutive road meet of the season. This time, they will be participating in the Bowling Green Tri-Meet on Sunday, January 26, 2025.

The competition will take place at the Stroh Center in Bowling Green, Ohio, and will feature opponents from the Mid-American Conference (MAC): Bowling Green and Central Michigan. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT.

Meet Details and Opponents

The Bowling Green Tri-Meet marks the fifth straight road meet for the Gymhawks this season. They will be competing against two MAC schools: the host team, Bowling Green, and Central Michigan.

As of now, SEMO has a 0-2 record against MAC schools, having previously fallen to Ball State in their first two meets of the season. According to *Road to Nationals*, Bowling Green ranks 61st in the nation, while Central Michigan holds the 49th spot.

Junior Taylor Ingle has been a consistent performer for the Gymhawks. She was recently named the Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) ‘Gymnast of the Week’ following her stellar performance at the Texas Woman’s Tri-Meet.

Ingle secured first place in the all-around with a score of 38.500, including season-highs on both the vault (9.850) and floor (9.875).

Recent Competitions

The Gymhawks are coming off a busy week that included two meets. Last Friday, they participated in the Texas Woman’s Tri-Meet, where they placed second with a season-high team score of 193.325.

They followed this up with a win on Monday afternoon at the Centenary Tri-Meet, scoring 192.325 and defeating both Centenary and West Chester.

In both meets, Taylor Ingle took first place in the all-around, finishing with scores of 38.500 and 38.225, respectively.

Team Rankings and Individual Highlights

Heading into Sunday’s meet, the Gymhawks are ranked 63rd overall according to *Road to Nationals*. Their best performance has been on the vault, where they hold an overall ranking of 55th.

The team also ranks 58th on bars, 63rd on floor, and 71st on the beam.

Ailey Kuehn on the Vault

Junior Ailey Kuehn has been a standout on the vault this season. The Eagan, Minnesota-native recorded a season-high 9.800 on the vault during the meet at Ball State on January 12. At the Texas Woman’s meet, Kuehn scored a 9.775, marking back-to-back meets with scores above 9.700.

Freshman Impact

Freshman Joselene Hernandez has made a significant impact in her first season of collegiate gymnastics. She has competed in the all-around twice this season, setting a career-high score of 37.525 at the Centenary Tri-Meet.

Hernandez also set a season-high on the vault with a 9.750 at Texas Woman’s and followed it up with a 9.725 at Centenary.

Return to Bars

Sophomore Ava Johnston, who missed the first three meets of the season, made her return to the bars lineup at the Texas Woman’s and Centenary meets. Johnston, a 2024 Second Team All-MIC selection, recorded back-to-back scores of 9.700 in her first two appearances of 2025.

Season-Highs and Team Performance

The Gymhawks achieved five straight season-highs on the beam rotation during the Centenary Tri-Meet, leading to a team score of 48.650, their highest on the beam this season. The standout performances came from:

  • Jaidan Kossuth: 9.775
  • Leah Parton: 9.800
  • Janelle Lopez: 9.675
  • Taylor Ingle: 9.800
  • Joselene Hernandez: 9.600

These performances were instrumental in securing their team score and showcasing the depth and talent of the Gymhawks.
