Springfield Collegeโs womenโs gymnastics team delivered an impressive performance at their 2025 home opener in Blake Arena, achieving a season-high score of 185.300.
Competing against Ithaca College, Ursinus College, and Rhode Island College, the Pride showcased their talent and determination.
Highlight performances included Sage Kaplanโs fourth-place finish in the all-around competition and several standout routines on various apparatuses.
Impressive All-Around Performance by Sage Kaplan
Junior gymnast Sage Kaplan from Auburn, Mass., was a key contributor to Springfieldโs success.
Kaplan secured a fourth-place finish in the all-around competition, with a total score of 36.925. Her individual scores were:
- 9.600 on the floor
- 9.475 on the vault
- 8.950 on the uneven bars
- 8.900 on the balance beam
Kaplanโs consistent performance across all events was instrumental in boosting the teamโs overall score.
Strong Showing on the Vault
Springfield began the meet on the vault, where they accumulated a combined score of 46.700, the third-highest among the competing teams.
Following Kaplanโs lead, Claire Geiger from Independence, Ky., placed 15th with a score of 9.450.
The teamโs solid performance on the vault set a positive tone for the rest of the competition.
Standout Performances on the Uneven Bars
On the uneven bars, senior gymnast Ayako Maeda from Tokyo, Japan, delivered a remarkable routine. She earned a score of 9.525 and finished fourth overall, just one-tenth of a point shy of first place.
Behind Maeda, Sarah Brownstein secured 12th place with a score of 8.850.
The teamโs efforts on the uneven bars were a highlight of the meet.
Balance Beam Success
Springfieldโs gymnasts also excelled on the balance beam.
Maya Belog from Sturbridge, Mass., achieved the best score for the team, with a 9.650, earning her seventh place overall.
Brenna Johnson from Plainfield, Conn., and Sarah Brownstein also performed well, with scores of 9.475 and 9.300, respectively, both finishing in the top 20.
The teamโs balance beam routines demonstrated their skill and composure under pressure.
Floor Exercise Excellence
The floor exercise saw some of Springfieldโs best individual performances.
Stacy Taylor from Biddeford, Maine, and Delaney LaViolette from Holden, Mass., tied for seventh place, each scoring 9.700.
Julia Reer from Cedar Grove, N.J., also had a strong showing, with a score of 9.625, placing her 12th.
These high scores on the floor exercise were crucial in boosting the teamโs overall performance.
Looking Ahead
Springfield Collegeโs womenโs gymnastics team will continue their season with a quad meet at the University of Bridgeport next Sunday.
The meet will feature the host Purple Knights, Rhode Island College, and Wilberforce.
